The reason behind the new number format is pretty straight forward and obvious – there are only that much numbers are available under the existing 3 + 7 numbering format, so the new format is needed to cater future users. No change to existing customers though since both the new and old numbering format will co-exist together. So, if you find your new phone number is one digit longer than your previous numbers or your other friends, don’t panic. In fact, congratulations – you just got yourself a new 3 + 8 mobile number.
